17.01.1976 - leaflets
Prepared about 40 leaflets for Steve and I to distribute this afternoon in Brid. We chose a number of Dropping Zones (DZ) such as the library, oaklands, buses – the list is infinite. My aim is to win over a few recruits for the Y.C.L or at least those with passive support. The effect won’t be very great, but over the next few months, I plan to flood certain areas (such as the library, where a great number of people gather, and buses, where people like something to read) and influence by sheer volume of propaganda. My views of communism have matured somewhat after a period of disbelief, then apathy. I no longer look at it in a really dreamlike – idealistic sense, but as an alternative to an unjust system. Why should the few live off the labour of the many? The masses are a pretty pathetic lot, but I suppose they’ve got to be protected or at least managed. I feel I have a sort of moral responsibility, a social conscience, for them – however repulsive numbers of them might be!
