Considered today how ill-spent most of the energy of our local youth (of which, I must concede, I am part of). Their time of course is their own and it is an inalienable right: the right to enjoy oneself to the full. So many of these people expend energy in a violently anti-social way, thereby, spoiling everyone else’s enjoyment. It’s such a mess.
Got my 1976 Y.C.L. membership card, along with a letter and some leaflets from Hull. After consideration, I decided that I would continue to be a member and to become a sort of “mole”. My ultimate aim can only be to establish a league in Bridlington, despite its right-wing leanings. University should be fertile in the political field, but when I ultimately settle down the chances are that I will not be living in Brid.
It seems a waste really, because among the 26,000+ people in Bridlington – swollen to 55,000 in summer (counting outlying camps, day-trippers etc) there are bound to be some good communists; the law of averages. Really, it’s a matter of communication and education, so I’m planning to distribute leaflets regularly (although not on the open street) by subtle methods.
Leaflets on youth unemployment should have some effect (at least) as this area is badly hit by it.
Saw Paul Morley for what will be the last time in a long while…. I’ll miss him, he was a really good mate.
