18.01.1976 - My ideas of communism!

Did a little reading this morning, but I wasn’t really in the mood for it. I began to re-think my ideas of communism and what actual support it has locally. The older people around here are hopeless – it would be much easier to convert them to fascism. The National Front had a great poster campaign a few months ago which could have had an adverse affect as this is a staunch Tory area. It’s up to people like me to counter that propaganda by communist education.

A lot of people in my year (discounting apoliticals, apathetic and liberals), would claim to be either Marxist, Left, or as near communist as anything else. It appears that none will give actie support by actually joining the party! I feel a sort of social conscience for this locality…more leaflets!

Went to see an x film in the evening with Steve an Pete… all that worrying by Pete that Steve wouldn’t get in! Futile. Dropped some leaflets on the bus, pinned a few to doors while walking down-town and left a couple in the cinema. The trailer to “Madhouse” was not too bad. “The Amazons”, with at least some pretensions to a plot. The main film was advertised as “Dave you spend a night seeing “Madhouse?” to which I answer “ No – I nearly died of boredom!” I’ve been more scared by Doctor Who!
