Went down to Grandad’s in the afternoon, for there was a branch meeting in the evening in Hull. Spent a boring hour watching horse racing – my god, what improvements to sport could be made if bookies were bled a bit more.
The meeting was very interesting and a novelty to me – another “first” to be notched up. I was elected acting chairman and various matters were discussed; finances, activity, forthcoming events and Red Festival. I expressed my views upon the futility of distributing 4000 RF leaflets in the area – who wants to go down to a Communist event in London (I do! But cannot afford it).
Roge led a discussion of Socialist democracy. A lecturer from Hull Tech., he went on and on as if giving a lecture. He left very little time and room for debate, which I thought was a bit wrong.
Met Steve R in the station, he’d just arrived back from Germany (FDR) and had all his gear with him. We got some Chinese food when in Brid and went back to Grandad’s where we cracked open a bottle of Steve’s Moselle. Steve went about 1.00am.
