There is increasing animosity between the majority of the form and D. Brown (pupil) . Through constructive argument, a number of us have come to the conclusion that beneath a veneer of “revolutionary”, “cynical” attitudes, he is as narrow minded as a religious puritan could be. The decay without, is only matched by the rotten interior – like a pile of manure. He uses friends (transitory as they are) until every last advantage has been wrung out of them and then tosses them on the heap of what he calls “pseuds”. He does not worship a God for the mere reason he thinks he is God – auto theocracy?
Talked to Margaret on the bus, having browsed round the J. L. Book Exchange for a while, although it was not exactly what could be called a “tête-á- tête”. Her brother, naturally enough for his age, made some rather tactless remarks about her weight. I protected her by saying it was the mind, not the body that matters.
She blushes very easily and this often appeals to me as showing an underlying deep sense of modesty. Very appealing. And she’s of Anglo-Saxon descent – not one of those bloody foreigners who came over in 1066. We had a great culture and history up till then. But I think she is so beautiful and attracts me literally as a magnet.
