My birthday’s over; if it wasn’t for the cards and cash, as yet, I could hardly tell you that I’m now 17. In the evening I rang Steve Flint, my Hull YCL contact, for the first time. We had a long conversation about many practical things. He told me that the only member in the area outside Hull, was one in Scarborough: Trevor McIntyre. He didn’t know how enthusiastic he is, but is feeling isolated much more than I do or did, according to Steve.
I wrote him a letter later on, what you could call a morale booster if you like. Unfortunately the fellow ho’s joined the C P in Bridlington has moved away to Bradford...a pity really because there was great organisational potential between us there. Still, it would be good to get together with co-believer Trevor, because it’s relatively easy to get to Scarborough or vice versa. My letter was a mixture of light hearted joking, sympathy (or as Yanks say, “empathy”) and encouragement – practical, not just designed to whip up support alone. I hope today I have sown the seeds of something much bigger as far as the Party in Brid goes.
