3.5 “tiger cages"

A blank faceless day today, although an enjoyable one at school. The media have begun to bombard us with all the Whitewash about the “Spirit of ‘76” – in other words, the coming celebration of the Declaration of Independence of America. My mind immediately leapt to such scorching issues as Vietnam and the oppression of our black brother in the USA. I find it hard to express the depth of my loathing towards everything that America represents to me.
To me, USA means seeing bloodied innocents in Indo-China; a mother crying in the ruins of life, home and family; of prisoners beaten cruelly and the remnants of men crawling from the “tiger cages”. It means the savage military coups aided and instigated by their government; poor comrade Allende and the defeat of his elected Marxist government; of attempts to topple Comrade Castro in Cuba; arms to support murderers and mercenaries in Angola; support to all reactionary elements world-wide.
Yet one need not be a communist to have this fellow feeling and here is only a tiny part of their foreign policy!
