20.01.1976 cross-country

The usual sort of Tuesday today – cross-country and all that. Wasn’t really too bad, although a bit breezy. The wind is powerful, but you never feel its force so much as when you’re in a wood. It is calm down below, but up in the trees it was like Hell.

Wrote a great part of an English essay (and I’ve got another three essays to do before Monday) but I quite enjoyed it.

Made my flail in the evening. It didn’t take very long despite the crudity and ineffectiveness of my tools. Practised for a short while with it and considered new ways to use it. I’d never get to use it on anyone, but if the case came where I had to challenge someone to a fight, it would be pretty off-putting if I said “Right, we’ll use flails”. Me a fighter! Sounds ridiculous, but I like the idea of possessing the knowledge to use a certain weapon. I would sooner avoid a fight.

Saw a reasonable documentary in the evening (after an excellent half-hour of Fawlty Towers) called “Who says it could never happen here” and Lord Chalfont gave a biased view of communism. On the whole, however, the communists got their message through and it showed to me how close to the Revolution we are.
