14.4.1976 Stinky Billy

Lazy morning followed by a trip to the local chateau – I now feel real sympathy with the fellow in the Python tourist sketch. From the first, I wished I was with a small party of friends.

Chateaux and art works are impressive but people are much more interesting (and often very beautiful).

Had an over voracious appetite for drink in the evening, although I felt none the worse for drinking a litre of wine and half of beer. I daresay I was a bit pissed, but everything seemed to take on a more homogenous aspect. The evening was ended by a fruitless search for a bar other than the one near us. In an industrial area, there are surprisingly few places of “iniquity”.

Rich was inserted into our room, lending us his intrusive presence. Trevor and myself...and Stinky Billy”, as Rich has recently been christened. Very apt, physically and morally.
